The centre of contemporary art DOX is organizing an exhibition by a Chinese artist and activist performing under the pseudonym Badiucao.

Badiucao, who, due to his persecution by Chinese authorities for his political beliefs, is currently living in exile in Australia, tries to draw attention to the dangers of political power. The artist sharply defines himself against any form of ideological and moral control, which is especially typical for totalitarian governments.

The artist has recently captivated a worldwide audience with his protests against Chinese government censorship and manipulation of historic facts.

Badiucao's work consists of participatory campaigns, posters, illustrations and online activities carried out mainly through social media. His works of art are mainly characterized by a mix of pop- cultural references and a wide sort of elements used by communist propaganda – be it typical graphic style, range of colours used, or typical toning and shading. He is also known for implementing ironic slogans throughout his art.

Take a pleasant walk from the apartments to visit the exhibition

MADe IN CHINA is Baudiucao's first collective exhibition. Among other things, it focuses on artists’ work associated with Chinese censorship during the Covid-19 pandemic, the repressions of dissent in Myanmar during the military coup in 2021, or the violent assimilation of Uighurs. One whole section of the exhibition is then dedicated to the war in Ukraine.

You can visit the exhibition BAUDACIO: MADe IN CHINA until August 28, 2022, at the centre of contemporary art DOX. The gallery is located at the address Poupětova 1, Prague 7, which translates to a pleasant half-hour walk from our apartments in Prague. The gallery is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 12:00 to 18:00.
